Discipline Policies

We believe that the implementation of the school discipline plan should be progressive in nature. The school will take a series of progressive corrective measures in dealing with each discipline problem.

Therefore, in order to help students make positive choices and to create a positive climate for learning, Harte Prep Middle School will implement a merit and demerit system to address behavior beginning the 2017-2018 school year.  The system below will provide rewards for positive behaviors and interventions/consequences for negative behaviors. Finally, the system is intended to assist students in making good choices thus producing well-behaved students. Our ultimate goal is to develop students who are self-disciplined and good citizens.

The merit/demerit system is a school-wide discipline plan that will focus on behavior and is not connected to academics. Any staff member can issue merits and demerits.

  • Students receive 100 for the school year  .
  • Teachers will inform the students of their specific buy-back procedures.

Demerits will be documented and parent contact will be made accordingly.

Students will be able to “buy back” demerits based upon the following criteria:

  • Students who have ZERO demerits will be able to attend earned events or earn other incentives.
